A useful program gives you a repeatable task, a reason for doing it, and a way to assess change. Strength, muscle growth, power, and general activity are related goals, but their measurements and training choices are not interchangeable.

Consistency gives progress something to build on

ACSM’s 2026 guidance emphasizes regular participation and adapting a plan to the person and goal. You do not need a complicated system to begin understanding progress. The progressive-overload guide explains how to compare sessions without confusing a bigger number with a better task.

Keep the broader activity picture visible

CDC adult guidance includes both aerobic activity and muscle-strengthening work. Recovery, food, and sleep help explain the setting in which a plan operates. A supplement can be an additional consideration without becoming the center of the training map.
